On Saturday we went for a drive to the Daintree, about an hour or so north of here. It's so beautiful that we've decided to take the van up there for a few days when we leave here on Wednesday. I think we might stay out of the water, though. Look what we saw sunning himself on the bank...We got back in time for the free outdoor movie and popcorn that the caravan park put on in the evening. The boys all love "Pirates of the Caravan" (as Fletch calls it) and Jack & Jarrah were lucky enough to stay up really late and watch the sequel too. Fletcher has since moved on from creating peg monsters to making peg pirates!
On Sunday afternoon we took a short walk/bike ride to a nearby resort which was hosting Jazz on the Green. Once we got there we discovered there was an entry charge and as the Johnston travelling budget didn't extend to this we turned to leave. However, the lovely ladies on the door chased us down and very kindly said we could enter free of charge! Not sure why. Perhaps we really do look like the travelling hillbillies? Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed the music, the wine and the lovely venue! Bruce particularly enjoyed the local Montgomery Brothers. Just a couple of young kids with a huge amount of talent and a very bright future!
Not quite so sure about the level of talent required for what the Johnston kids got up to...
Yup, it was less about the jazz and more about wrestling, beating the bejesus out of each other and playing in the bucket/bins for them. A future in the recycling industry, perhaps...
This morning the weather turned nasty, but we braved the cold (it was down to 24 degrees) and headed onto the local jetty to try our luck. We didn't get anything for our dinner but we all had great fun. Jack, Jarrah and Fletch were all thrilled with their catch, but the catch of the day was Jarrah's "fat fish".
We couldn't work out why Jack was so cautious of this fish until later when he explained that when we told him that blowies "blow up" when you catch them, he actually thought we meant explode!
As novice fisher-people, we are not great at identifying the fish we catch. Please shed some light on the following photos if you can. We think Jack's is a flounder. Fletcher's looks a bit like a trevally. Jarrah and Fletch were especially proud of their first ever catches.
Please note that no animals were harmed in the making of this movie.
All fish were kissed and returned to the ocean to grow a little bigger!
