Noosa National Park

This morning we dropped Bruce at the Tewantin National Park for a MTB ride while the boys and I tackled the Coastal Walk in the Noosa National Park (Headland Section).

Originally declared in 1939, Noosa National Park now covers 2883 hectares.  The Headland section features spectacular coastal scenery and provides an important refuge for native plants and animals.

We were told that there remains only one or two koalas in the park.  I challenged the boys to find one, and with the promise of a reward, the words were barely out of my mouth before the call rang out!  Jack had spotted a koala some 25 metres up an old white gum tree.

Not surprisingly, he was asleep (these little guys sleep 18-20 hours per day!) but it was pretty cool to see a koala in the wild.  On our return all the details of the siting were taken down by the staff at the visitors centre.

We walked out to Hell's Gates, with its amazingly rugged and spectacular coastline and views along Alexandria Beach.   Here we enjoyed watching the dolphins and eating the last couple of Maca Melts.

I've got to admit to being a little anxious about losing one of the children down the sheer 50 metre drop into the pounding, mincing surf below, so I was happy once we were on our way again.

We covered the 3.5 km return journey in just 30 minutes and met Bruce at Massimos Gelateria for a well earned gelato treat.

There was nothing left to do for the day but goof around in the sun on Main Beach.

So that's exactly what we did!
