After a late start and a few games of chess, we walked into
the city, stopping in the Queen Street Mall to check out a few of the street
performers.
We met Sam (another of
Bruce’s Army Apprentice School mates) and his lovely wife Andrea at the Surf
Club at South Bank.
The kids went for a swim at the beach and made a few sandcastles before joining us in the café for some tucker and drinks. It was beautiful sitting in the sunshine – until the storm hit and we had to take cover from the driving rain. While waiting out the thunder and lightning I couldn’t believe I’d been applying sunscreen to the kids 30 minutes earlier.

Soon enough the storm had passed and the sun was out
again. We farewelled Sam and Andrea and
hopped on the Brisbane City Cat for a ferry ride up and down the Brisbane
River. We enjoyed some rain, some sun
and a beautiful rainbow along the way.
We took a further stroll along Southbank before heading back
to Spring Hill, arriving well after dark.
The kids were rewarded with their special request for dinner – spaghetti out of a can – and we enjoyed
a yummy Chicken and Tomato Bake with Melted Brie. The boys got stuck into the beers and I tried
my first ever Hendricks Gin and Tonic.
