So back it was to Ballarat for us today. But not until the afternoon. We started with a lazy morning chatting with Lynn and checking out her great food van. She put her barista hat on and brewed us a great espresso, which was enjoyed with a generous slice of her delicious banana cake. We could all get used to this!
After getting a few domestics out the way, we hit the highway once more for Sovereign Hill. The boys didn't mind this at all, of course, as it meant they could do some more panning for gold. The entry ticket is valid for two days, so we decided we might as well make the most of it.
Fletch got back on the horse!
We watched some candles being made, did some more bowling and saw another batch of boiled sweets being made (mostly so we could get the free samples at the end!). And of course there was more gold panning.
It was my turn to cook a meal tonight so we collected ourselves some more gold then headed out of the gate at around 4.30pm. That should have given us plenty of time for the 40 minute drive back to Bacchus Marsh and to have a meal prepared at a reasonable time.
We only got to the car park. The boys decided to climb on a statue and while they were hanging upside off it we all heard a very small 'tinkle'. The sound was Jarrah's precious bottle of gold flakes smashing all over the ground. There were tears. So many tears! And those little specs of gold are just SO little they were not recoverable!
With just 30 minutes before closing, back into Sovereign Hill we went. With all of us on the pans, we managed to find him a little more gold to bring home.
Disaster averted!
Oh, and it was a VERY late dinner. As could be expected, it got a little crazy! Well, us girls did!
