The Glitter Strip

Well, considering we were supposed to be relaxing over the weekend in preparation for more all day theme park-ing next week, I am thoroughly exhausted!

Yesterday we had a lazy start with a BBQ brekky about 10am.  The boys got to feed some of the wild sulphurs on the deck, making us all feel a little homesick for our feathered friends in Keysbrook.

After we'd farewelled Col & Trace we took the kids on a bike ride to Pizzy Park.  The skate park was really busy with local kids, but we found a relatively quiet section and enjoyed some thrills and spills.

In the afternoon once homework was finished the boys had the chance to chill out in front of the TV.  It was great to catch up with Yvonne and Cob's daughter, Linda and her own beautiful daughter Maddie.  After not seeing Linda for more than 25 years I was really surprised at how little she has changed!  We finished the day off with a quiet dinner and an early night.

This morning, following a delicious Sunday breakfast of 'pancrepes' we drove to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and took the light rail into Surfers Paradise.

Our first stop was Ripleys Believe It Or Not.  We spent much longer than the recommended hour here, intrigued by the relics and rare treasures from around the world.  There was magic, mystery, illusions, fun interactive games, moving life-size figurines and unbelievable movies!

The boys' favourite was definitely the Impossible LaseRace, where we had to navigate through the web of lasers, going over and under lasers as quickly as possible to reach the end.  The shrunken heads were pretty cool too, and the spinning vortex tunnel.  Bruce liked the guy who could stretch his face and I liked the fattest guy in the world (made me feel better about my recent bingeing habit!)

We all liked the world's tallest guy, who was activated by a sensor to stand up and sit down.

I am not sure whether Fletch liked the warrior so much.

We spent the rest of the day wandering around Surfers  Paradise.  We stopped for some coffee and donut holes, and strolled up the beach watching hundreds of strange people pretending to sunbake (there was no sun today!)

We stopped for lunch at the Surfers Sunbar, and from here it was not hard to see why it's called the Glitter Strip!  It's a bit like Cappuccino Strip in Freo, only with surfers instead of bogans!  All showing off, nonetheless.

We decided to pick up a few groceries at Pacific Fair on the way home, and I swear this must be the biggest shopping centre on the planet.  Ok I just googled it and it's the largest shopping centre in Queensland and fourth largest in Australia. It is 150 000 sqm and I am convinced we walked every one of them!!

Anyway, eventually I got the ingredients I required for dinner tonight.  While sharing some bubbles with Yvonne, I whipped up Janine's Chicken and Tomato Bake.  Yum.

The kids gave it the thumbs up, and along with Lyndy's Icky Sticky Pudding that I made for dessert, declared it the best dinner they'd ever had!
